CAS Values and Agreements
This document defines the shared values and agreements of the CAS learning community.
CAS Vision Statement
CAS is the result of a group of teachers, students, and parents who came together to create a learning community that nourishes and develops the whole student. Emphasizing social justice, media literacy, communications skills and communication technologies, CAS broadens the definition of a successful education beyond traditional academic skills to include citizenship, social responsibility and sustainability.
Course of Study
This document describes the content and skills that will be taught during each year as the student progresses through high school.
Essential Questions
CAS students explore a series of Essential Questions (EQ's) throughout their four years. EQ's are open-ended, exploratory questions that guide curriculum planning, class discussions, and writing.
Standards-Social Justice
CAS is committed to the belief that social justice lies at the heart of education in a democracy and we are committed to helping create a more vital, more dynamic democratic society.
Standards- Media
CAS equips students with media production skills so that they can effectively communicate using modern technology in pursuit of a socially just society.
Request for Authorization
In June, 2003, CAS received authorization from the Berkeley Unified School District. At that point, CAS changed from being a program to being a full-fledged small school within Berkeley High. |
